ILIECOJOCARU
“By virtue of historic conditions, I. Cojocaru started from the traditions of the 20th century painting, as most of our artists did. In the West such traditions are seen as representing"concrete" rather than realistic painting. His growth towards modern painting continued for just over a decade; the synthesis the artist achieved in the early 1990s was perfectly in line with that type of art. Ilie Cojocaru's work stems from his love for the spectacle of nature, from the traditions of Romanian painting, he worked in a period one could call post-avant-garde, next to such prominent artists as Țăruș sau A. Sârbu, in the last two decades his work has displayed a version of abstract contemporary modernism, wedged between the instinctive and the rational, between the past and – why not? – perhaps the future, too.”
